The Dissemination of Thought

Just because it's in print doesn't mean it's intelligent…

About TDoT (and the guy who writes it)

with 67 comments

If you are reading this you are either curious about who I am, or trying to find contact details to start civil proceedings against me. Either way, thanks for reading The Dissemination of Thought (TDoT).

The blog is a way for me to articulate the random – and usually irrational, meaningless – thoughts that pass between my ears. Me being me, a lot of the posts will be opinionated, somewhat controversial, but in theory, amusing. There is the chance that a very small percentage will actually be well thought out, coherent and provoke discussion, but it will be a minuscule number in the overall scheme of things. Somewhere under 1% I would imagine.

One of my passions in life is writing, and I find it a sensational way to express myself. I don’t do it enough (much like exercise), usually make excuses as to why I’m not (very much like exercise), and then end up guilt-tripping myself back into it, only rediscover how much I love putting my thoughts to paper. Or virtual paper. Or whatever the hell blogging counts as. I am using TDoT to stimulate the creative juices (yeah, I know that sounds wrong) and to get as many noses out of joint as possible. Come on, admit it – who doesn’t like creating a bit of controversy? That said, the quasi disclaimer for TDoT is as follows: anything posted on here is a result of my own personal thoughts and opinions and does not have anything to do with any company or professional organisation I either work for or am affiliated with in any way.

I value your comments and feedback, even if it’s to tell me you think I’m an asshole. Hopefully the debate and comment will be a little more intellectual than that, but even if it’s not, email me and let me know what you think. But yes, I am an asshole. And arrogant, but in an adorable, charming way.

  1. I love your blog and thoughts and everything! Look forward to seeing you rattle a few feathers πŸ™‚ xx

    December 7, 2011 at 13:29

    • Thank you for your positive feedback, I’m glad you enjoy TDoT. I haven’t received any hate mail yet, nor have I been sued, so we have a lot of work to do.

      December 7, 2011 at 13:43

  2. I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger award πŸ˜€ it’s on my blog x

    December 13, 2011 at 15:30

    • Thank you for the nomination – it’s great to get feedback that people actually enjoy reading The Dissemination of Thought. It makes doing what I do seem somehow less self-indulgent, and that has to be a good thing.

      December 13, 2011 at 16:13

  3. Congrats on the award. Is “Versatile” code for “Disorganized”? Thanks for the award nomination, you are one of my most appreciated subjects (and there are only 13 of you so far, not sayin much, but I’m still sayin!)

    December 14, 2011 at 02:50

    • I think it’s a polite way of saying that people think I can make up shit about anything. At least that’s what I’m allowing myself to believe it means.

      December 14, 2011 at 05:49

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m so glad you did because now I’ve found you, and I’ll be back for more, though not in a crazy stalker way. I like your style!

    December 14, 2011 at 22:41

    • Thank you for the feedback, and welcome to TDoT. Feel free to come and go as you please – I’ll have a key cut for you.

      December 15, 2011 at 05:12

  5. Thanks for checking out my blog — I’ve signed up to yours now as a reward for being the first person to inform me that King jong-Il died (am stuck in Somerset without a TV).

    December 20, 2011 at 23:57

    • I’m glad that this blog could provide usable information to someone. I wish I could inform you that everything will now change in North Korea, but I can’t see it happening.

Thanks for stopping by The Dissemination of Thought.

      December 21, 2011 at 08:12

  6. I was definitely in the former category and not the latter on your intro sentence! I’m happy to have found your blog, and look forward to reading it too… Cheers! Jerri

    December 21, 2011 at 01:20

    • At least you aren’t one of those people who feel they fall into both categories because they are curious about who it is they are trying to sue.

Welcome to The Dissemination of Thought. Please feel free to look around, and remember that all complaints are to be sent directly to my legal team.

      December 21, 2011 at 08:06

  7. cheers! I look forward to reading more.

  8. Even though I’m one of those overweight cyclist guys in lycra, I’m quite enjoying your blog. Like sandylikeabeach, I’m also (a) following you, and (b) reasonable certain I’m not a stalker. πŸ™‚

    December 28, 2011 at 17:00

    • Thank you for the positive feedback. The only thing stopping me from being classed as an overweight cyclist is the lack of a bicycle; as for the lycra issue, I just couldn’t do it to society.

Welcome to The Dissemination of Thought. If you are a stalker, can you please grab some bread and milk on your way to sitting in the tree across the road? If you’re going to watch me change, the least you can do is bring me some food.

      December 28, 2011 at 17:18

  9. Oh, I see what you did there.. you pulled the “make myself out to be a jerk so I can get away with more” move. Nice. πŸ˜‰

Cool blog- I’ll be back for more.

    January 8, 2012 at 09:26

    • You’d be surprised how much more leeway one is given when everyone expects you to be an asshole.

Welcome to the pandemonium that is TDoT. Please come back as often as you’d like, but just remember, the inane stupidity will wear you down.

      January 8, 2012 at 15:52

  10. I was hooked when I started skimming the Dr. Seuss post during my staff meeting! And then, I get to this page, because I love reading another person’s concept of self, blog, thought, etc – and I read the part about civil proceedings. I laughed, tickled that another person in the universe shared my sense of humor. Then, I read through the multiple harpings about exercise, or more precisely, the lack thereof. That confirmed it. This is absolutely diet junk food for my brain. All of the content, none of the guilt. Sort of how Catholism relates to other denomenations of Christianity.

I thank you for the follow on As the Pendulum Swings. First, because you presented me with the opportunity for shameless self-promotion. Second, because I appreciate when someone who can spell better than me takes an interest in my blog, (too lazy to link again). But mostly, this last third thing. Your writing makes my mind smile. And possibly my face. I don’t really know because I’m commuting home.

For the record, I’m on a bus writing this, not swerving through four lanes of traffic on an interstate to end up parking on a human outside of a house that isn’t mine.

    January 12, 2012 at 09:59

    • I don’t think I’ve ever been compared to anything religious before, except that one time someone muttered something about “Antichrist”.

Welcome to the Pepsi Max of the blogosphere that is The Dissemination of Thought. You will be invoiced for the mind smile in due course.

      January 12, 2012 at 10:17

      • Keep my tab open. My Lamictal brain and bleach blonde hair make paying it forward difficult.

It’s hilarious you said Pepsi Max, because that’s the exact substance that caused me to discover a serious asperataime allergy. I’m not cool enough to have a life threatening reaction. I just ended up getting hideous, itchy welts on my thighs. That’s where the “Anti-Christ” thing comes in. I imagine that is what hell is like. Being itchy, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Major holidays off to remind me of what life is like without the persistant, hellish itch!

I wouldn’t liken it to Pepsi Max. More like those delicious low calorie cheesy puffs that I later discovered had 3g trans fats. What “diet” anything has trans fats!?!? Despite that knowledge, I still proceeded to consume half of the bag. What about the other half? I wasn’t very well about to fight my own 3 year-old son for it!

He’s huge! I’m pretty sure he can take me.

        January 12, 2012 at 13:31

      • Okay, we won’t liken TDoT to Pepsi Max: I don’t want you associating my blog with itchy welts and rashes below the equator.

        January 12, 2012 at 14:06

  11. “But yes, I am an asshole. And arrogant, but in an adorable, charming way.”

You may consider yourself an asshole but damn, you are a very humorous one. Life would be a bore if we couldn’t ridicule the things we dislike.

    January 12, 2012 at 13:33

    • I laughed when I read this comment. You’re only new here, but believe me, the charm will wear off sooner or later. Hell, I can’t remember the last time my mother – or anyone that has known me for more than about 3 hours – called me charming. Someone did mention “humorous”, but I think they were laughing at me, not with me.

Thank you for your kind feedback, and welcome to The Dissemination of Thought. For today only, we’re giving away an asshole statuette (no, not that sort of asshole) with every subscription sold.

      January 12, 2012 at 13:58

      • Great. Niw you’ve just made it sound like herpes. Or selective leprocy that only goes for the goods. Glad I could be of service. Now, I believe my bill is paid in full. *Smiles*

        January 12, 2012 at 23:44

  12. Thanks for dropping by blastedgoat and commenting. I started reading through your posts and decided to follow TDoT πŸ™‚ Like your sense of humor!

    January 31, 2012 at 14:49

    • Thank you for subscribing, and welcome to The Dissemination of Thought. I’m not going to lie to you: things here are going to get worse before they get better, but we do have tapas and a daiquiri machine.

      January 31, 2012 at 19:16

  13. That made me laugh, I’ll be back for more πŸ™‚

    February 3, 2012 at 04:53

  14. Great about page. Thanks for the read!

    February 3, 2012 at 04:56

    • You are more than welcome. Thanks for stopping by The Dissemination of Thought, blogging’s answer to Little House on the Prairie. That is, of course, if Michael Landon loved debauchery and references to hookers.

      February 3, 2012 at 15:48

  15. I am now following you because not only did you make me think. You also made me laugh. Can not wait to read more.

Now to see if you can offend me…. Not an easy task. πŸ˜‰

    February 3, 2012 at 05:51

    • During your period of introspective thinking, did you scream out, “Why the hell am I reading this?”

That sounds like a challenge. I like challenges, especially ones that involve attempting to cause offence.

      February 3, 2012 at 15:59

  16. comparing writing to exercise ….. brilliant… can totally relate to it…

    February 3, 2012 at 05:57

    • I contemplated comparing writing to sex, but it made me sound pitiful, and just a little bit too eccentric. Girls don’t like eccentric, pitiful writers.

Welcome to The Dissemination of Thought: it’s like a gym, minus the grunting, sweating and lycra.

I have a question for you: what’s the story behind the title of your blog?

      February 3, 2012 at 15:54

      • yeah you are right..comparing it to sex would have been little too eccentric…
thankyou for makin me member of your gym…

no story… i am just an obsessive person… and my blog isnt about political issues or other big stuffs happening around… its just my anatomy of my life and things surrounding me and my emotions.. m kind of too much into myself…yeah…am that twisted…
i used to write dairy now i use blog…only blog doesn’t get all the gossip a diary gets…

        February 4, 2012 at 04:08

  17. This blog is a riot. I not only enjoyed it but even got carried away and reblogged it on my blog. This way, I hope to bring in more readers to my own blog since I am clearly not capable enough to do it on my own. Keep going.

    February 3, 2012 at 18:36

  18. Glad I stumbled upon your blog, it got me lol-ing at the computer! I really like your writing style, keep up the good work.

    February 3, 2012 at 23:22

  19. Your blog amuses me, so I’m subscribing! πŸ˜€

  20. Plus I initially thought TDot, stood for Toronto so I felt a connection. Turns out I was wrong, o well! πŸ˜‰

    • Would it make you feel better if I wrote a piece about Toronto?

Even though we’ve started our relationship with an abbreviation issue, thank you so much for visiting the other TDoT.

      February 4, 2012 at 15:45

  21. Fantastic.

    February 4, 2012 at 12:05

    • I wonder if I could get that on a headstone. Thanks for visiting The Dissemination of Thought.

      February 4, 2012 at 15:44

  22. First off, it is my hope that you one day tell everyone your regular name (or at the very least a made up one) so that when someone says “Oh TDoT, you’re sooooo awesome”, one does not feel like they are talking to the city of Toronto. Although it wouldnt be a stretch by any means to be saying that to this fine city.

Anyway, now that that’s out of the way I must say thank you for the shout-out you gave my blog. Because of your kind gesture in bestowing you ABC award, my blog subscriber list is now 10 followers longer and my ego 10 times bigger.

Of course I shall return the favor once I get my ass down to writing my award speech of describing myself with the alphabet but until then, I just wanted to say thank you πŸ™‚

    • It says Lyndon on my driver licence, but I think TDoT sounds cooler.

I can’t condone talking to inanimate objects like a city, even if it is Toronto.

You are more than welcome for the ABC Award; I loved your piece about why you’re going to be the next Bachelorette, and wanted to share it with the blogosphere.

Thank you for stopping by, and welcome to the confusion of names that is TDoT. On your next visit, please bring me a vanilla latte and a Toronto-themed snow globe.

      February 14, 2012 at 22:59

  23. I have passed the Versatile Blogger Award on to you. Yeah, you’ve gotten it before. You could think of it like a fun STD – it just keeps coming back! πŸ˜€

    February 6, 2012 at 07:07

    • “You could think of it like a fun STD…”

I just spat water everywhere! Are you saying that the Versatile Blogger Award is the gift that keeps on giving? Accolades and prizes shouldn’t require the daily application of ointment.

Welcome to The Dissemination of Thought. In our reception area, you will find a number of informational leaflets on sexually transmitted awards and their treatments.

      February 6, 2012 at 09:57

  24. Congratulations, you have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award!! What does this mean for you? Well it means a little work sorry!! πŸ™‚
The challenge rules for this one can be found by going here:
    Have fun and enjoy!

    February 8, 2012 at 08:39

  25. I am finding myself to be enjoying your style of writing πŸ™‚ look forward to reading past posts and your new ones to come. If it wasn’t for freshly pressed…what would I have done hehe

    February 9, 2012 at 06:51

    • I was thinking the very same thing about Freshly Pressed earlier this week.

Welcome to The Dissemination of Thought, where everything is always fresh, pressed and confusing.

      February 9, 2012 at 17:59

  26. Hello!
I have nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, details of which can be found on my site:

As you can see from my rather tongue-in-cheek post, I completely understand if you choose not to participate. I only pass it on as a means of letting you know I really enjoy your blog!

    Have a great day!

    February 13, 2012 at 23:33

    • Thank you for the award! Fulfilling my duties as a recipient is now officially on my list of things to do.

      February 14, 2012 at 23:01

  27. I know that you have been nominated for this award before, but since you are one of my favorite bloggers, I put you on my list of nominees on my post as well for the Versatile Blogger Award.

    February 23, 2012 at 08:46

  28. So, I have finally completed my award acceptance post. Ha! Anyway, you have already won all those awards but you obviously deserve a big shout out for all the good work you do.

    Here is the link! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you for shouting my name from the rooftops, even if you did leave out an “n” when you spelt it.

      February 24, 2012 at 20:43

      • Ummm oops. This grave mistake which may or may not have been as a result of a glass of pinot has been rectified. Now I’m shouting your name the way its supposed to. And that did not come out sounding wrong at all.

  29. Well, I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for “The Versatile Blog” award. You’ll find the instructions and such on my page:

Then I saw that you’ve been nominated for this same award MANY times!! I understand if you don’t want to do that all over again… πŸ™‚

Hope you’re having an awesome Leap Day! πŸ™‚
